“It was a like a dream, brilliant. The lads can’t believe it”

Jermain Defoe has described his five-goal haul against Wigan Athletic as “like a dream.”
The Spurs striker was in dazzling form as Spurs crushed Wigan 9-1 at White Hart Lane, with Peter Crouch, Aaron Lennon, Niko Kranjcar and David Bentley bagging the others.
“The most important thing was to win the game, to win 9-1 was brilliant and to score five goals was fantastic,” Defoe told the club’s official site.
“It was a like a dream, brilliant. The lads can’t believe it. The finishing - look at Niko’s finish and David Bentley’s free-kick. All the goals were unbelievable.
“We put them under a lot of pressure in that first 20 minutes and it was a good team effort. I had a couple of shots that were saved well in that first half and Keano said at half-time that a second goal would kill them off.
“We won the game in midfield. The lads were fantastic - we knew we’d get chances.
“The hat-trick goal probably meant the most. Azza got down the line, cut back a great ball and I got across the defender to finish it off. The feeling when you get the third is brilliant.
“It’s important for me to keep my head, go back into training and look ahead to the next game.”

tottenham were amazing
i didnt realise aaron lennon is that much of a threat WOW
defoe should always be in the england squad and also we didnt have king modric the player who controls the midfield
coys
I have no doubt in my mind if Modric and King were 100% fit, we would have tonked them 10-0 and smashed the PL record…no doubts at all. Magical performance all the same from the whole team.
The score should have been 9-0 which would have given us a still better total goal difference(+15 instead of +14). I really fail to understand how THREE officials could not have spotted such a blatant handball, even more obvious than that of Thierry Henry. What is wrong with the referees these days? Referees who let such glaring mistakes slip by should be barred from refereeing. Is it because they are not physically fit enough to run about and stay as close as possible to where the ball is in order to be able to spot out the cheating? This is really outrageous. What are the FIFA and FA doing about it? Fergie is right when he questions the fitness of referees.Referees’ bad decisions are not only frustrating to club officials and fans but also tarnish the beautiful game of football.
