In getting sent off for two ill-advised fouls against West Ham isn’t exactly the greatest of starts and it certainly isn’t away to endear yourself to your new employers.
However an article in The Mail says that’s exactly how Serge Aurier marked his full Premier League debut back in September after he was signed in £23million deal from Paris Saint-Germain.
It’s says that Mauricio Pochettino must have shared the worst fears of Spurs fans that Aurier might turn out to be a pretty expensive problem and the article adds that his opening performances were played on such a knife-edge it looked that way
However move forward a few months to the present and Aurier looks to have won Pochettino’s trust and, while he still has moments that make you wince (incl Sunday), the Ivorian right back is looking more like the player Spurs hoped they’d bought.
The article adds how Harry Kane is getting weekly plaudits and the constant talk about Dele Alli’s fluctuating form, it has been forgotten how influential the full backs are to Tottenham’s manner of playing.
It adds how we had a claim to have the best pairing in the world last season with Kyle Walker and Danny Rose and former was always going to be a tough act to follow after his sale to Manchester City, while Rose has had his wings clipped by injuries this season.
However the article says it’s safe to say Aurier and Ben Davies on the other side have filled the void with both starting the last three Premier League matches and both have performed well.

Aurier’s afternoon on Sunday was came to an end 20 minutes early by what appeared to be a knock and the article adds that Pochettino, having willingly played Aurier of late, will hope it isn’t serious with a clash with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool on the horizon following FA Cup duties, and the Champions League tie with Juventus fast approaching as well.
The article goes on to say that while there have been signs of improvement in his game since that kamikaze afternoon at the London Stadium in September, Aurier still had vital defensive aspects to work on.

In the same half Davies fired in a pacu cross that should have been turned home at the back post by Sissoko and the article adds like Aurier, he was desperate to get forward and support whenever possible. Always offering a pass, it was his crossing and corners that most impressed.
The article goes on to say that actually the only chances created in the first-half were from the boots of Aurier and Davies, adding that Davies has surely presented a strong case to remain at left back even when Rose, as expected, returns from his latest injury at the end of the month.
