Current form down to a little too much cockiness suggests Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino has admitted the clubs recent wobble could be down to them getting too cocky according to an article in The Express.

It begins by reminding us how we have only won two out of six since beating Real Madrid in the Champions League last month and how we are winless in their last three ahead of tonight’s clash with Apoel Nicosia.

The article adds how we made a big statement by beating Madrid 3-1 at Wembley but he admits it may have made them too big for their boots.

“Maybe it’s possible that we have too much confidence,” he said. “Maybe it’s possible in that moment after Real Madrid happened something changed in our mind,Or maybe because after playing at a high level, high tempo with a massive pressure, the team needs to breathe to bounce back and assimilate. That situation was new for everyone.

Pochettino added: “All the opinions are good and maybe they are all wrong. The most important now is to help them to start to perform in the way we did against Madrid and Borussia Dortmund and in games like Liverpool when we were fantastic. To build our confidence and our trust and focus on trying work harder.

Pochettino also stressed: “Always in football the dynamic can change and sometimes it’s difficult to recognise why. But that happens that you face some period when you believe you can go up and sometimes you struggle instead.
That is a good period to learn and work hard to change. It will be a fantastic experience if we change that dynamic as soon as possible.”

The article also added tbsf Pochettino refused to be drawn on referee Mark Clattenburg’ comments this week about his “game plan” to let Pochettino’s Spurs “self-destruct” against Chelsea two years ago when a 2-2 draw ended our faint title hopes.
“I don’t want to talk about the decision of the referee, their behaviour, if they were good or not good. I understand their job is so difficult. It’s not easy to be a referee,”:he said.

He also added “It’s better to stay quiet and say nothing because I am not going to help if I say some comment.
“I prefer to stay focused on my team because otherwise we distract the focus from the problem that we have, and that is trying to win games.”
