Edwards Signs New Deal

18 year old midfielder Marcus Edwards, who was compared to Lionel Messi by Mauricio Pochettino last year, has signed a new 3 year deal with Tottenham Hotspur.

The attacking midfielder scored 5 goals in 10 appearances for the Tottenham Under 21s in the Premier League 2, as well as playing a large part in England’s Under 19s European Championship glory earlier in the Summer.

The teenager has represented the nation at Under 16 level too, and made his senior Tottenham debut as a substitute in last season’s 5-0 League Cup 3rd round victory over Gillingham at White Hart Lane.

Last year, Edwards was likened to Argentine superstar Lionel Messi by Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino, who said:

“The qualities – it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi.”

Now, in an announcement released on Tottenham’s official club website, the youngster who signed his first professional contract in Summer 2016, has signed a new 3 year deal which will keep the 18 year old at Spurs until 2020.

I’m looking forward to seeing young Edwards maybe get some game-time next season. He’s possibly our most exciting prospect!
