Lamela’s timely return

One solitary bit of good news from today was that Erik Lamela made his return to action on Saturday, starting Tottenham U23s match against Chelsea U23 at Hotspur Way.

The 25-year-old Argentinian has not featured for Tottenham for over a year due to a hip injury, with his last appearance coming in the 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool in October 2016.

Lamela returned to first-team training in October and according to Sky Sports his manager Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful of having his compatriot back at his disposal soon.

“We are talking every day about, ‘are you ready?’, and we are waiting for him to feel full confidence to be involved once again,” Pochettino said at his pre-match news conference ahead of todays defeat north London rivals Arsenal.

Lamela of course joined Tottenham from Roma for £30m in 2013 and has since scored 19 goals in 119 appearances for the club.

After a slow start to life at Spurs, Lamela was at last starting to find form but the injury curtailed that. It’s great to see him back and hopefully he will hit the ground running
