According to The Express Mauricio Pochettino is not ruling out managing Real Madrid one day.
An article in this mornings publication describes how Zinedine Zidane has come under intense scrutiny this term, especially with Real’s troubles in La Liga being well documented and that Pochettino, meanwhile, has improved us immeasurably over the past few years and his side are chasing a top-four spot this season.
It goes on to say the Argentine tactician has been touted as a potential replacement to take over Zidane at the helm, and of course has previous experience of managing in La Liga with Espanyol.
It does add however that his immediate focus is on Spurs, and that Pochettino was quite coy when quizzed over his long-term future.
“Football will bring me to where football wants me to be,” he told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.
“Jorge Grifa [former Argentina international footballer] told me to focus on the present, to maintain your professionalism and let things happen, and he was like a second father to me.
Pochettino added: “In football you always have to endure highs and lows whether you are managing in England or in Spain, so it is normal for me to go through this.”
It adds that in the meantime, Pochettino has overseen our resurgence and we have won four of our past five Premier League games including a 4-0 victory over Everton on Saturday leaving us in fifth spot in the table, just three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
