The stench of corruption over Barkley deal

Corruption Corruption Corruption. Ross Barkley’s future has now eventually been sorted. The 24 year-old completed a £15m cut price move to Chelsea on Friday.

Now if you believe everything you read, the former Everton star had a last minute change of heart on deadline day in August
and pulled out half way through a medical at Cobham, supposedly it was because of interest from Mauricio Pochettino.

Barkley did claim on social media that the reason was that he wanted to concentrate on recovering from an injury that was to keep him out until January.

Then this week and not four days into the transfer window word was he was about to sign for Chelsea and low and behold the deal was done.

Now you may call me a cynic but for me I smell a rat in this whole deal. I do believe Mauricio Pochettino did hold an interest in Barkley, he’s a Pochettino type of player and he would have added an extra option. However I don’t believe for a minute Barkley had any intention of going anywhere else other than Chelsea and with financial gain his main motivation. Antonio Conte supposedly didn’t want him [Conspicuous by his absence at the unveiling] but if rumours are to believed the Italian won’t be at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer.

Chelsea were ready to pay £35m for his services in August, but yesterday got their man for a whopping £20m less, just 5 months later. I’m firmly of the belief that Barkley and Chelsea have pulled Everton, the FA and Premier League’s pants down.

I think it has gone like this, Barkley does everything bar sign the deal last August, Chelsea tell him you’re out for 6 months we won’t sign you now, but if you get treatment there, at Everton’s expense, we will bid a lot less for you and we’ll give you a couple of extra quid for your troubles, when we will return for you in January.

Publicly he’s told to say he changed his mind, is out for six months anyway so cites that as an excuse. So instead of costing Chelsea any medical expense, they then save £20m in transfer fees, they give that little golden handshake in the guise of a signing on fee to Barkley for sitting tight, so he gets the wages he wants and a couple of extra quid and he gets to shaft Everton too.

It’s the speed in which the deal got done that makes me question it. The Window is only open 4 days but they (Barkley & Chelsea) manage to agree a deal that quick. I don’t buy it one little bit.

Barkley was never going to come to Spurs, we were just the smokescreen and Everton fell for it hook line and sinker.
