MF looks ahead to Everton vs Spurs

Avoiding cliches when writing about cash strapped Everton isn’t easy so I won’t try too hard. Goodison is a tough place to go especially with Marouanne Fellaini in the form of his life. Recent tradition has it that they’re slow starters but that’s not been the case this season. They were quick out of the traps in August and September thanks in no small part to the form of Jelavic and Mirallas, two players that the underrated (and potential Fergie successor) David Moyes was actually allowed to spend money on, a most unusual event.

In fact, like any good toffee, the sweet start has developed into something more unpleasantly sticky lately. (See what I’ve done there?). Since seeing off Southampton at the end of September Everton have drawn 7 of their 9 Premier League games with only the defeat of Sunderland and the loss to Reading disrupting the sequence. Most of the games have been ‘hard fought’ of course, as befits the Dogs of War. They appear to have had the better of both Arsenal and Man City in their last two matches which gives a good indication that we’re in for a tough 90 minutes.

AVB has choices to make, Vertonghen or Naughton on the left, Gallas or Vertonghen in the middle? Lloris, Walker, Caulker, Sandro, Dembele and Lennon are in but who will make up the other three? The last two times Defoe and Adebayor have been available he’s gone with the pair, it would be a bold move this time though and he might feel that putting in a more solid midfield might be helpful. We’ll see.

Kevin Friend is the referee. COYS.
