MF looks ahead to Spurs vs Liverpool

White Hart Lane - Tottenham Hotspur News

A revamped, and according to their manager, currently hard done by Liverpool come to White Hart Lane on Sunday lunchtime. Many of the skinheads (Konchesky, Meireles, Cole) who played for the Reds in last season’s last minute winner thriller have been moved on to be replaced by a hairier but snarlier bunch of characters. Bellamy, Carroll and Gerrard can all swap courtroom tales whilst Suarez gives advice to Pepe on how to tip close range headers over the bar. At Anfield in May the Uruguayan confirmed his win-at-all-costs ethic by spending a lot of time hurling himself to the floor unnecessarily thus doing his best to prolong and promote a national stereotype. Michael Dawson will remember a particularly melodramatic example. Dalglish’s comments on unfair treatment from referees don’t wash when his players put such efforts into conning them.

Last week’s good win at Wolves has breathed a bit of hope back into a league season that was starting to develop hunched shoulders after the defeats to the two Manchester clubs and this game at the weekend is a real opportunity to let everyone know that we’re back in business. Adebayor, Parker & Ledley gave us a spine we’d been lacking and also brought out the best in those around them. With no-one from the team at Molineux involved in Greece apart from Walker, it’d be a surprise if we didn’t field the same as last weekend, though if Lennon is fit he may come in instead of Kranjcar. Van der Vaart was rumoured to be making a quicker than expected recovery from his Man City knock, this surely is too soon for him to be ready though. Much depends on the state of King’s knees but the injuries to Dawson & Gallas mean that there’ll be a lot of pressure on him to play.

The ref is down to be Mike Jones and no doubt Dalglish is already practicing his hard stares and knowing looks. Jones has not been afraid to show his cards this season so far – 11 bookings and 1 sending off. What price Parker marking his debut with a flash of yellow?

We did the double over Liverpool last season, the win at Anfield being far more comfortable than the late win at WHL. If we’re to witness a repeat victory this time round then as usual it’ll be down to the big players, and we have plenty of them, putting in a shift and playing at their best. Potentially we’re in for an exciting game. A win would be a real fillip, a loss would lead to serious doubts. COYS.
