It’s the Carling Cup on Tuesday evening and the kids of Woolwich against the squad fillers of Spurs.
Personally I’ve rarely felt less enthusiasm towards a North London derby. There’s a temptation to just get this one out the way and get back to supposedly more significant stuff, ultimately though you never want to give the smuggers anything and once ref Lee Probert blows the first whistle it’ll be easy to get into the game.
Both managers will pick weakened sides as they’ll feel they’ve got important things ahead to worry about. It’s become accepted but this behaviour should be viewed as odd as realistically, this still remains the competition both teams have the greatest chance of winning this season. I’m sure Fabregas would like a bit of souvenir silverware to pack when he’s deciding what to ship back to Barcelona in the summer and a Carling Cup medal is, as I say, most probable out of what’s available.
Harry will use the game to blood the careers of some of the latest signings (Sandro and Pletikosa perhaps) and revive the status of others (Hutton, Keane, Bentley and Giovani for instance). Our team’ll have a slight departure lounge feel to it. Some of those who’ll give us a start in the competition won’t be at WHL should we do well and reach the final for the third time in four seasons, Harry’s just waiting for suitable replacements to come available.
Unlike them, we’re unlikely to field many youngster I’d have thought, the most likely candidates, Bostock, Mason, Parrett, Rose, Townsend and Obika are out on loan for a start. Kyle Naughton would be the most probable to play but goal machine Alan Hutton will is liable to get the nod at right back. It’s hard to tell though, we’ve injuries all over the park so it could be a right old hotch potch that takes the field.
Despite my opening to the second paragraph, the nerves are starting to jangle and the stomach is churning. Time to put the kids to bed. COYS.
