Hugo Lloris – 3 particularly magnificent saves from close range, twice from Cisse and once from Debuchy, kept Spurs in the game. Distribution sometimes poor but it was so windy there.
Kyle Walker – Largely kept the Newcastle left-wing at bay although he didn’t have much attacking impetus.
Younes Kaboul – YESSSSSSSSSSSSS. A top return for the Frenchman. Tons of interceptions and tons of panache, as one would expect. Is it a coincidence that we get a clean sheet when Kaboul and Vertonghen pair up at centre-back?
Jan Vertonghen – Slightly overshadowed by the return of his beastly centre-back partner but this was the Belgian’s best performance since his return from injury – very composed and assured.
Kyle Naughton – Came in for the concussed Danny Rose and put in a sound performance, intercepting high up the pitch and generally keeping the door to our goal firmly shut.
Etienne Capoue – Given 90 minutes in his best position, as a shield to the defence, and this was a great performance from the Frenchman. Covered the defence well and made a lot of key tackles. Why did we consider selling him?
Mousa Dembele – Another assured central-midfield performance from Dembele, completing pass after pass and providing a high tempo to our attacks and breakaways.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Paulinho – Alert to pounce on the chance to net his goal and he influenced the game more than he did against Hull and Everton.
Nabil Bentaleb – An all-action performance from the young French-Algerian-Englishman. Close to Adebayor when required but also doing the dirty work a bit closer to his own goal. Totally justified his selection.
Aaron Lennon – A decent performance from the winger, working a few shooting opportunities, but still somewhat underwhelming.
Emmanuel Adebayor – 2 well-taken goals and another win with the rejuvenated Ade back in the side. He can’t stop scoring! Adebayor does rhyme with Ballon D’Or…
Substitutes
Andros Townsend – A series of driving runs with little end product.
Nacer Chadli – A sublime strike to cap off the win.
Roberto Soldado – Not on the pitch for long enough to influence proceedings
