Player Ratings: Dinamo Tbilisi 0-5 Tottenham

Spurs managed a comfortable away win in Georgia with goals from Roberto Soldado (2), Andros Townsend, Paulinho and Danny Rose as they all but secured their place in the Europa League group stage. The result will be a confidence boost for the side as they ease into the new season.

Hugo Lloris – 8 – Had to pull off some superb saves although Tbilisi only threatened the goal on 2 or 3 occasions. The Frenchman demonstrated his magnificent reflexes from a header and then a low shot across the goal to preserve his clean sheet.

Kyle Naughton – 7 – A solid performance from the reserve full-back although he was rarely troubled by the Georgians. Looked to be on the same wavelength as Andros Townsend which is promising.

Michael Dawson – 7 – Another tidy performance from the legend, however to say he was worried by the Georgians would be a lie.

Younes Kaboul – 7 – Very similar to the other defenders, but great that he is back playing 90 minutes again and I look forward to seeing him hit his best form.

Danny Rose – 8 – A very solid performance from Rose, capped off with a delightful goal from the edge of the area. A left back is needed but having Rose as our first choice for the season is not a disaster by any means.

Paulinho – 7 – The Brazilian had another composed performance in the centre of midfield, with the bonus that he opened his account at the goalscoring bank for the Lilywhites.

Etienne Capoue – 7 – So solid again from the ex-Toulouse man, who is proving to be a valuable addition to the squad already and a massive upgrade on Scott Parker.

Andros Townsend – 9 – An excellent performance from the adventurous winger but let’s not forget who we were playing this evening. Still, the goal and the assist will give him confidence and retain his position at the forefront of AVB’s mind.

Mousa Dembele7 – A slightly less effective performance as Dembele was asked to play a little further forward, but he still played well. I think his position definitely is a little deeper in midfield.

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6 – A weak performance from the Iceman in my view; nothing he tried truly came off unfortunately and I think he may find himself slipping rapidly down the pecking order at White Hart Lane. Dithered on the ball a lot and failed to form any understanding with Soldado for the second time in a week.

Roberto Soldado – 8 – Probably Soldado’s quietest performance in a Lilywhite shirt thus far but still managed to bag 2 goals with 2 tidy finishes resulting from 2 good pieces of movement. He is a true poacher; he doesn’t need to be playing well to score.

Substitutes:

Nacer Chadli, Tom Carroll and Harry Kane all had minimal impact on proceedings because by the time they stepped onto the field, Spurs had slipped into a low gear and were coasting towards the end of the match.
