A Swansea fan gives his post-match opinion vs Tottenham

Following Tottenham’s 3-1 win at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, we caught up once again with Swansea fan Kev who runs Vital Swansea to ask him a few post-match questions on the match. Here’s what he had to say…

So you started well and things could’ve been different perhaps if Bony’s thunderbolt had been six inches lower or the ref had seen Dawson’s shove rather than thinking about what to have for tea?

We were unlucky early on, we started really well and looked to get on the front foot from the start, but those moments you mentioned just didn’t go our way. The penalty looked a stone waller and how the referee hasn’t given it in his position I just don’t know. Bony and Shelvey also had great chances but Spurs found the net with their first of the game and that’s the difference. Our heads dropped after that and we just couldn’t recover – and fell to pieces in the end.

Once we scored though you seemed to go into your shell. Is that a confidence or personnel issue?

We certainly did, and it just looked obvious that there’s a complete lack of confidence within the group at present. They need more belief that they can get back into games, but our record of coming back from going a goal down is lacklustre. We need to show more character which some of the teams around us have more of than we do. West Brom were able to get a point after going 1-0 down to a good Everton side, and I wonder if we’d have managed to do the same. Injuries haven’t helped, but the character should still be there.

Sherwood played you a compliment by switching formation to cope with your midfield possession game, would it be fair to say that it’s not what it was however?#

Not exactly a compliment no, just the obvious formation to avoid losing out in midfield – although other teams setup as 4-4-2 have beaten us at home. I’ve read some Spurs fans who thought Sherwood would have been happy to let us have the ball in our best spell of the game – the opening half hour, but it could have been different if Bony’s shot went in off the bar or the penalty was given – as we certainly caused you problems early on.

Christian Eriksen is settling down nicely. Did he or anyone else impress you in the Spurs side?

He certainly did and looks a great signing. I was also surprised with Adebayor and how well he’s playing all of a sudden, he must be like a new signing for you.

How do we compare with other teams who’ve come to the Liberty?

I have to say that I thought you looked rather ordinary in the opening half hour. The goal changed the momentum over to yourselves and you were able to take control. You sensed that, took full advantage of it and tore us apart in the second half really. It could have been more so all credit to Spurs for that. Some teams would have been happy enough at 2 or 3-0, but you went out to get even more goals that you probably should have got.

Depending on the extent of his injury you’ll be without Shelvey for a few weeks, I guess he’ll be a big miss?

He will. Without him we’re lacking an attacking influence in midfield and we’re even more worried now at the thought of having him out for a fortnight or so. He’s the one player we had available who had a bigger range of passes to help create attacking play and get the ball into key and wide areas.

The result makes your next three league games even more crucial.

The next four, as they’re all against our fellow relegation rivals. Fulham next Tuesday is our first must win game of the season and it’s been quite a few years since we had a game as nerve-wracking as this one!

Thanks for talking to us and hard lines on the result.
