£6m gap in valuation affecting Diarra deal
News | admin | August 9, 2011 at 11:25 am
According to The Sun it appears as if a deal to sign Lassana Diarra has hit a snag.
The paper claims that Real Madrid value the French midfielder at £20million, while Spurs are willing to pay £14million.
With Wilson Palacios set to complete a £6million move to Stoke City, it could be a matter of us being one short in midfield for the start of the season.
Hopefully a deal can be reached with Madrid in the next few days.

Jenas is not the answer. Tom, although a good central midfielder has question marks around his mobility, particularly without his match fitness. Then there's Jake Livermore, an un-tested (at this level) youngster.
This would be a good move. 20m is a bit steep, but then again Henderson went for 18m!…. We do need to shift a couple more however, who will take them off our hands though? Who in their right mind would sign Jenas? – If only Wham were still in the prem.
Tom and Modric in mid until sandro is fit, then tom and sandro in mid (sandro holding) bale and lennon on the flanks and modoric playing behind the striker. We just need to buy a Big striker who can hold the ball and also get us 20 goals. Maybe someone like Llorente. We need to spend 20 mill on a striker, not a sh..t overrated player and waste money like we always do (Bently,Rebrov,Bent). Although every striker who doesn't do well for us seems to do well elswhere (Bent,Zamora,Kanuote, Defeo). Anyhow I don't want Diarra.
I agree that 20m is too much to pay for a defensive midfielder, particularly as this isn't our priority.
However, an upgrade on what we currently have in defensive midfield where we are currently short would not be the worst thing in the world. I completely share your high rating of Tom, however, at the moment there ARE questionmarks surrounding his fitness and he is NOT currently the player he was before the injury. I'm not saying get rid, or that when he's fit he shouldn't be in the team, merely that a fully functioning defensive midfielder where we are light at present, isn't the worst thing.
I think Diarra is probably more mental than overrated.
