Adebayor’s Tottenham departure in doubt

Emmanuel Adebayor is in danger of missing out on a move away from Tottenham unless he backs down over the paying up of his contract at White Hart Lane, Press Association Sport understands.

The 31-year-old Togo international is not part of Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team plans at Spurs and has been heavily linked with a move to either Aston Villa or West Ham over the duration of the transfer window.

A potential loan move to Upton Park was ruled out when the Hammers signed their second domestic loan player in Chelsea’s Victor Moses, with Premier League rules stating no more than two players from the same division can be loaned out at one time.

That left Adebayor needing to be a free agent to seal a permanent move, but it is understood the former Arsenal and Manchester City forward wants the final year of his Tottenham deal paid up in full, a fee of around £5million, if the contract is to be terminated early.

If no arrangement can be made, he may be forced to remain at White Hart Lane at least until January.
