VIDEO: AVB’s weekly press conference

Andre Villas-Boas held his weekly press conference earlier today ahead of Saturday’s Premier League encounter with Norwich City at White Hart Lane.

Although Gareth Bale has departed for Real Madrid, AVB was asked how Tottenham would cope with the loss of the Welsh superstar. As usual, AVB kept his class and believes that the squad has evolved with the additions we have made during the past transfer window.

AVB told the press conference: We lost a wonderful footballer who gave us so much last and we wish him all the best. What we have to do is to move on.”

“We have evolved because we have invested a lot in young players and want to develop a strong team that puts us in the elite of English football. That’s what we strive for. It would have been made easier with him (Bale). With a player of his dimension, his qualities but, in the end, we were in a position where we had to think if we kept him what would be the consequences of our acts and how difficult it would have been to bring the player back to a level of motivation to work for us.”

The Tottenham boss is also excited about the potential of Christian Eriksen: “What we do in the transfer market is with the expectancy of these players becoming world stars and I think what happened with Christian is a bit like that happened with like Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart when they were at Ajax. They reach a moment in their career where they become extremely important for their team and the club who goes and gets them does a great transfer move. We expect great things of Christian Eriksen. So, at the moment, we would like to develop him into becoming that type of important player for us as well.”
