Spurs defender leaves on loan

Forgotten Tottenham central defender Bongani Khumalo has joined Championship outfit Doncaster Rovers on a season long loan deal.

The South African captain was brought to Spurs or a fee of £1.5 million, from Supersport United in 2010, but failed to make an impression under both Harry Redknapp and AVB.

Khumalo, 26, has previously had loan spells at Preston North End, Reading and Greek outfit PAOK.

Another defender who could be following Khumalo out of Spurs is Steven Caulker, the 21-year-old is undergoing a medical at Cardiff City according to reports in Wales.

Khumalo told the official Doncaster site: “I’m very pleased to be here. I’m very happy that things have worked out and I’m just looking forward to the start of the season.

“All the lads have been really welcoming, which really helps. I’ve had a lot of support from the skipper and everyone has made it really easy to make the transition.

“Dean [Furman] and I have met before having played in the national team, so it was great to come here and see a familiar face.”
