Capello: I didn’t hear when Redknapp said that

Fabio Capello has insisted that Michael Dawson will have his part to play during England’s World Cup campaign.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp was critical of Capello’s dealings with Dawson when he was originally axed from the 30-man squad.

Dawson trained this morning with the England squad just hours after landing in South Africa.

Capello said: “I didn’t hear when Redknapp said that. For me, all 30 players who stayed with me in Austria are important, really important for me.

“For this reason, he (Dawson) was one of the players. I know the value of these players because I chose them.

“Matthew Upson didn’t play (against Mexico or Japan) but he’s out here in the squad.

“For me, it was important to find out and learn about all the players as they trained together.

“It’s not important what other managers think about the players I’ve chosen. Dawson will be pleased to come here.”
