Crouch: We must kill off games

Peter Crouch says Spurs must learn to kill games off if they want to progress in Europe.

Spurs raced to a 2-0 lead against Werder Bremen, before leaving the home side come back in and end up with a 2-2 draw.

“When you are away from home in the Champions League, the other team are always going to have chances,” Crouch told the Evening Standard.

“You have to defend well and ride out that storm. I think the disappointing thing was the goal just before half-time. That gave them hope and made their half-time team-talk a lot easier.

“We needed to carry on what we were doing. We were murdering them at times, certainly down the left-hand side with Gareth Bale, who was fantastic again, and I think we could have gone on and got more.

“We should have kept the ball more and kept going forward – we sat back a little bit and invited too much pressure on but that is something we will learn with experience.”

He added: “We gave a good account of ourselves.

“It is our first taste of Champions League football and I thought we played very well. We proved that we can be a match for any side but we don’t want to get carried away because it is only one game.

“If you start taking your eye off the ball in this competition, then you get punished. We cannot allow that to happen.”

Suggest Crouch should convey this important tip to the players personally as a team talk.Players in turn must heed this with importance, as it will improve their game & encourage automatic selection.
