World Cup star to undergo Tottenham medical

Seattle Sounders defender DeAndre Yedlin has travelled to London to undergo a medical with Tottenham Hotspur.

Yedlin caught the eye with his impressive wing-back displays for the USA during the World Cup.  Sports Illustrated claim that the player would see Yedlin finish out the current MLS season with Seattle before heading to White Hart Lane in January.

He missed Seattle’s training session on Friday, with head coach Sigi Schmid and owner/general manager Adrian Hanauer confirming Yedlin was abroad, working toward a potential deal.

The deal is said to be worth $3.5 million.  However, there could be issues with Yedlin gaininng a work permit in the United Kingdom.  To qualify, foreign players are technically required to have played in 75 percent of their national team’s “A” fixtures (World Cup games, World Cup qualifiers, regional championships, etc.) – whereas Yedlin has seven caps to his name at this time.

Should a deal come off, it is not surprising that Mauricio Pochettino has focused primarily on strengthening his defence after what we all saw at the back last season.
