Jermain Defoe has insisted that he is ready if he is called upon by England to face Algeria this evening.

The Spurs striker did not feature in England’s World Cup opener against the USA, but is ready to shine on the big stage.

He told FATV: “I’m ready. In training I feel sharp and I’m ready, definitely.”

“Obviously the manager is extremely disciplined but the manager is also cool and he’s got good banter,” he added.

“He joins in and is always laughing and stuff. But when we’re training, we’ve got to do it right.”
