Dier explains Mourinho conversation

Eric Dier has finally spoken about his controversial conversation with Jose Mourinho following Manchester United’s win over Spurs at Old Trafford last season.

Mourinho and Dier were seen embracing after the match, and spent some time talking between themselves.

Furious speculation followed, and was further heightened by Mourinho’s supposed desire to bring Dier to United however the Portuguese later plumped for Nemanja Matic instead.

Dier, speaking with The Sunday Times, explained what happened following the talk with Mourinho. The article says he spoke with Mauricio Pochettino, saying:
“We [were] talking for a very long time,” he said. “And all of that week, really, we were in constant dialogue. It was a difficult week for me.”

Dier added “The manager’s point of view was [the friendliness with Mourinho] was disrespectful to him.”

Dier went on to add that as the two of them share a Portuguese football background, it is normal for two people who speak the same language or culture to speak in football.
“I grew up in Portugal. Portuguese people are very proud and it’s a small country”: Dier said
“It doesn’t have the economic power of a country such as England, so people like Mourinho, Ronaldo, they’re extremely proud of it. Growing up there I was within all that, you know? I didn’t want to be disrespectful to anyone.

Dier added “I completely understand where the manager was coming from but I believe I was stuck in the middle of something I couldn’t really affect.”

Nice that Dier explained what happened but it looks like a blatant bit of tapping up by Mourinho and he got away with it. What do you guys think?
