Harry tips Defoe to become Premier League top scorer

Harry Redknapp beleives that Jermain Defoe can finish the season as the Premier League’s top scorer.

The Spurs striker scored two goals in 45 minutes in England’s 2-2 draw in Holland on Wednesday night, and Redknapp expects Defoe to score at least 20 goals for the Spurs cause this campaign.

“With no Cristiano Ronaldo around, I wouldn’t be surprised if Defoe finishes as the top flight’s top scorer,” Redknapp said in his column in The Sun.

“He would be the first Englishman to do that since Kevin Phillips stunned us all with Sunderland back in 2000, and what a boost that would be for England in a World Cup year.

“He also knows he has serious competition for a starting place up front with Robbie Keane, Roman Pavlyuchenko and now Peter Crouch all busting a gut to get in the team and get goals.

“I’d be surprised if Defoe doesn’t bag at least 20 league goals.”
