Lloris: We must focus on ourselves, not Arsenal

Hugo Lloris insists Spurs must focus all their efforts on beating Sunderland – and not whether Arsenal might slip up at Newcastle.

The situation is simple. We must beat Sunderland at White Hart Lane and Arsenal draw or lose at Newcastle United if we are to qualify for Champions League football next season.

Lloris told the club’s official site: “We can’t think about the Arsenal result, we have to think about our performance, we need three points and from there, we can see what happens.

The French keeper is right, all we can do is focus on beating Sunderland and late fate decide the rest. Sunderland by any means will not be a pushover and we must play as if our lives depend on it. Newcastle may not have had the best of campaigns, but history shows that Arsenal struggle to win at St James’ Park.

“It won’t be easy. Sunderland have good players, a good team and when we played against them in December, it was a tough game. That was a good result for us.

“It has been difficult for them and a number of teams concerned with relegation.

“Paolo di Canio has realised his objective, he has saved the team in the Premier League and it is never easy to play against a team that has no pressure.”
