“I would like to have got Patrick Vieira and was genuinely keen on him”

Harry Redknapp has admitted that he would have liked to have brought Patrick Vieira to Tottenham before the close of the summer transfer window.
The Spurs boss is concerned about the shortage of central midfield players at the club and confirmed that he is likely to recall Jamie O’Hara from his loan move at Portsmouth in January.
“We are short in central midfield,” he said. “We have three central midfield players. [Jermaine] Jenas, [Tom] Huddlestone and [Wilson] Palacios. That is not enough. We have left ourselves short.
“Jamie O’Hara went on loan [to Portsmouth], and we sold Didier Zokora and [Kevin-Prince] Boateng,” Redknapp added before revealing O’Hara is likely to return. “Jamie is almost certainly coming back in January. I like Jamie as a person and player and we were not really mad keen to loan him but they [Portsmouth] were buying Boateng and they wanted to loan O’Hara. So it made it happen a bit.”
He added: “I would like to have got Patrick Vieira and was genuinely keen on him,” he said of the Internazionale and former Arsenal midfielder.
“It is the only area that scares me a bit. Luka Modric [currently out injured] can play there as well but, if we get injuries, we only have three and that’s not enough.”

I count, JJ, Hud, Wilson, Modric, Kranj, livermore…….
Therefore, when thinking about France’s once-towering midfield general, Patrick Viera, I only see the quality of the player. In this day and age when club badges are so exchangeable, and loyalties so tradeable, his previous ‘allegiance’ to the Gooners seems hardly an issue. If memory recalls, Monsieur V was quite eager to leave the Library of Snores for a good while before he joined Juventus.
Having said all of this, I would not have signed Patrick Viera on purely footballing grounds. He is not the player he once was, and a club with ambition needs to make more signings like Modric, and now Krankjar, and less signings like Davids and Sherwood.
