King – Away form vital

Ledley King has claimed it will be Tottenham’s away form this season that will determine how successful the season will be.

Spurs claimed their third away victory of the season at Portsmouth on Saturday to leave Tottenham sitting in third position with nine games gone.

Only Chelsea have beaten Spurs on their travels, with victories at Portsmouth, Hull and West Ham already recorded, with a point at Bolton’s Reebok stadium also won.

Spurs only recorded four away victories all season last year and have nearly matched that total already, much to the delight of the Tottenham skipper.

Speaking to the club’s official website, King said, “That’s three wins and a draw away from home so far and it shows we’ve improved in that department and we can get results away from home.

“That will be the difference between us really pushing on.

“It’s going to be a tough league this season, every game is tough and teams will drop points. We’re always confident at home, so away form will be vital.”

King scored the opener in the latest victory at Portsmouth and has praised Tottenham’s resilience after spending most of the second half on the back foot.

“We didn’t play well at the start of the second half and obviously the sending off made it more difficult. The result shows the resilience we now have in the squad.”
