Lawro predicts Spurs to beat Swansea

Harry Redknapp - Tottenham Hotspur News

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Tottenham Hotspur will beat Swansea City on New Year’s Eve.

Personally I’m a bit worried about this match and see it as a potential banana skin.  Swansea have a good home record this season and it’s vital that we don’t slip up after such a good performance against fellow Premier League newcomers Norwich.

He told BBC Sport Online: “This will be an interesting battle in the middle of the park because I believe the strongest part of Swansea’s team is the midfield, especially with the way their right-back and left-back come out of defence and join in. The Swans are usually more than happy to keep the ball but I just think they might spend more time chasing Spurs here.

“Yes, Brendan Rodgers’s side have only lost against Manchester United at the Liberty Stadium since being promoted but the way Tottenham are playing they will cause any team problems and they are in the mindset where they think they can beat anyone.

“Gareth Bale is flying. Whether on the right, left or through the middle, the way the Spurs side is set up means he has a licence to roam and, once he runs at you, he is unstoppable.

“Rafael Van der Vaart is fit, Emmanuel Adebayor and Luka Modric are still on form and you can see the depth in their squad from the way Sandro has come into the team in recent weeks and looked a very good player.

“So, as good as Swansea have been at home this season, I have to back Tottenham to take the three points.

“Prediction: 0-2.”

Out on a limb here. I think the Swans home record is inflated (Vorm's keeping mainly) and they're due for a hiding. The way Spurs are playing, they're the team to dish it out, especially if they start to convert a higher percentage of the chances they've been wasting in recent matches. Swans 1 Spurs 5

No team in the Prem will score 4 let alone % at the Liberty against Swansea, hey simply keep too much possetion. Vest result for Spurs will be 2 – 0 although I seea 1 -1 result.

I've watched Swansea a bit this season and it has always been entertaining. They play a very watchable passing game, like Spurs, and I'm looking forward to the match. I felt that in the away double-header of Norwich and Swansea – both nice footballing sides – the Welsh team would provide the sterner test. Though they are below Norwich in the league, they are less lightweight physically and move the ball about with confidence. I do expect Spurs to pack too much speed for them, though.
