“Look, Darth Vader could come to Spurs. I don’t care”

Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto has backed William Gallas’ decision to move to White Hart Lane.
With some fans unhappy that the former Arsenal and Chelsea centre-half is due to sign for us, Assou-Ekotto believes that Gallas has every right to move across north London.
He said: “Look, Darth Vader could come to Spurs. I don’t care.
“If he does his job well I am happy for Spurs.
“Gallas can help us. Even if he is from Arsenal. They haven’t taken the chance to keep him so he is a free agent. He can go wherever he wants.
“If he was under contract at Arsenal and then chose to go to Spurs then I would understand the supporters at our club not being very happy. But Arsenal don’t want him. So why not take him?”

He is only echoing what most people of a realistic point of view will be thinking themselves. Gallas is a player who hasn't finished outside of the Top 4 since his arrival in England, he has a winning(if sometimes out of control) mentality and Assou Ekotto recognises that. If he is able to contribute to us consolidating our 4th place position this season then it will be seen as a very good piece of business by Levy & Redknapp and we will not be bothered about his past employers. Lets stop being bothered about Arsenal and start thinking about winning trophies and building a squad that can challenge Man Utd and Chelsea – if we're going to take North London's bragging rights back permanently then those will become our real rivals.
But I didn't mind Gallas coming. We need a Centreback – Bottom line.
Mancini was being difficult in keeping Richards despite not even wanting him like he didn't want Bellamy.
He's a pretty decent player and is animated/passionate at times on the pitch. What more do you want?
He's spot on re: Gallas too.
