How the Tottenham players rated vs Manchester City

Hugo Lloris – Even though he produced another world class outing today, his defence let him down all game long and he could have nothing to prevent any of the 4 goals he conceded. He saved a penalty to keep his team in the game and made some crucial saves in the second half.

Eric Dier – The England U-21 international did not have the best of games today as he was constantly put under pressure by the Manchester City attack. He was not caught out of position most of the times but that was because of Clichy’s poor attacking display.

Danny Rose – At least he put some really good crosses in the box as he was shambolic defensively. He was constantly caught out of position and could not contain Jesus Navas. To add insult to injury, he gave the ball away to Navas with a ridiculous attempt at a header that ended up as a penalty and a red card to Fazio.

Younes Kaboul – After couple of solid outings at the back, the captain returned to his old form with an unbelievably bad performance. He was tormented by Aguero all game long as the Argentine ran past him, got behind him and got past him almost too easily. He also gave away a silly penalty that was saved by Lloris.

Federico Fazio – The Argentine’s Premier League debut was one to forget as he could not cope with Aguero either. Although he had some decent tackles in the game, he got punished because of his lack of pace. His decision to bring down Aguero in the box was baffling to say the least.

Etienne Capoue – He keeps giving Pochettino more reasons to stick with him this season as he did his best to keep Silva under control. He couldn’t completely shut the Spaniard out (who was anyway?), but he was the main reason why the Spaniard was not as effective as he wanted to be.

Christian Eriksen – He was the best outfield player for Spurs without a doubt and he proved that by scoring a well taken goal to level the game. He was constantly finding spaces to operate, but his passing game let him down at times. Still, Tottenham couldn’t have done anything in this game without his attacking threat.

Ryan Mason – This young Englishman is definitely going to be a part of Spurs’ season after another decent outing, this time against last year’s champions. He made some great runs in behind the City defence and he was solid in the midfield area.

Nacer Chadli – Started the game lively but faded as the game went on. He couldn’t provide much in the attacking third other than some earned free-kicks. He should have helped Rose more on defence against Sagna and Navas as the English left-back had a horrid time.

Erik Lamela – Probably the worst attacking player for Spurs and that says something considering Chadli’s performance. He constantly gave the ball away trying to come out of defence and his passing was subpar. He was unfortunate with the penalty call, but did nothing to redeem himself.

Roberto Soldado – He got his first start of the season and he was a threat early on with his passes and movement but he missed a penalty that would have levelled the game and a glorious chance 2 minutes later.

Subs

Mousa Dembele – He was brought on for Capoue but he did not make much of an impact. He showed his dribbling ability and strength in the midfield after Fazio was sent off.

Andros Townsend – Did nothing to mention other than a straight shot that was saved by Hart.

Jan Vertonghen – He came on late for Mason after Fazio’s red card and was punished by Aguero when he gave him space to run behind.
