The news we’ve all been waiting for

I’ll be the first to admit that when I read the quotes claiming that Mauricio Pochettino was keen to manage PSG, my heart sunk in a Bale and Modric-esque fashion.

Today however all is good with the world again.  Pochettino has spoken to clarify exactly what he said and even revealed that he has in fact verbally agreed to extend his stay at Tottenham until 2021.

Poch has three years to run on his existing contract and has been continually linked as a possible “successor” to Louis van Gaal at Manchester United and the more recent talk surrounding a return to France.

The Mail claim that when Pochettino puts pen to paper on the new contract, it will be worth £5.5million a year including perks.  He will then become our highest-paid manager of all time overtaking Juande Ramos – can you actually believe he has been paid the most out of everyone who has managed us?!

There’s no doubt that fans and everyone connected with the club want him to stay.  Even to the extent where Christian Eriksen is said to be stalling on signing his new deal until he sees Poch get the contract extension he deserves.

As a former PSG player, it appears as if something was lost in the translation when Poch was asked about potentially managing the French club in the future.

Pochettino told reporters:  ‘I think that was misunderstood (PSG links). I was captain of PSG and played a few seasons and my former manager called me and made some question for the radio. “One day you like to manage PSG?” Yes, why not.

‘This was all I said. But I can say now to stop that, we reached an agreement to stay two years more, my contract here until 2021. We don’t sign yet but we reached a verbal agreement to stay for the next five years.

‘We start to speak a few months ago. We reached a verbal agreement. I am very happy.

‘I think it is for many reasons. Tottenham have unbelievable potential. We create a great group of players, a very strong squad, young with potential to be a top squad. The supporters are unbelievable and have massive potential.’

What are you waiting for Levy?  Get Poch signed up – it’ll certainly help to soften the blow of losing out on the title.
