Dele Alli: Just hours after receiving his first senior England call-up, the 19-year-old again impressed in midfield for Spurs. Dominant in the first half and full of running, his shot led to Erik Lamela’s goal.

Erik Lamela: The goal itself may have been a tap-in but the way the Argentina international began the move was exceptional. Lamela rolled the ball with his left foot and immediately passed to Nacer Chadli with his right, leading to Alli’s deflected effort and the ball falling kindly for him to net.

Stade Louis II: As always, the atmosphere inside the Stade Louis II was somewhat lacking. Half full, it was the 900-odd travelling fans making the majority of the noise.
