PLAYER RATINGS: Tottenham 5-1 Sunderland

Hugo Lloris – Helpless for the goal due to Chiriches’ error and hardly touched the ball otherwise.

Kyle Naughton – A very impressive performance from Naughton, with a particular highlight coming in the second half when he won the ball deep in our half before launching a counter-attack with a superb pass to Eriksen.

Younes Kaboul – Shaky in the first half and rarely busied in the second: did display leadership and commitment, and his evident delight whenever Spurs scored was laudable.

Vlad Chiriches – Great to have the Romanian back after his early season form, but did gift Sunderland their goal. Comfortable on the ball otherwise.

Danny Rose – Shoddy in defence and wasteful in attack. Replacement please.

Aaron Lennon – Showed intent and provided a spark; eager to make runs in-behind Marcos Alonso. Unfortunately, final ball lacking on the whole.

Paulinho – Assured in possession and useful in linking up in attack; a good return to the side for the Brazilian.

Nacer Chadli – Showed glimpses of promise and is evidently comfortable on the ball but he didn’t add too much to proceedings tonight.

Christian Eriksen – Excellent performance. 2 majestic crosses for the first 2 goals and a decent finish for his deserved goal.

Emmanuel Adebayor – Popped up everywhere on the pitch through his keenness to pick up the ball and make something happen. Perhaps the easiest brace he will ever score, but finding the net must not be scoffed at.

Harry Kane – Very good performance and a deserved goal. Made intelligent runs to create a number of goal-scoring opportunities for himself to ensure that a first Premier League start for Tottenham was a successful one.

Substitutes

Gylfi Sigurdsson – Found the net in second-half injury time for the second time in successive home games to put the icing on the cake.

Andros Townsend – Kept the ball in the corner as the game drew to a close.

Milos Veljkovic – Didn’t learn too much about him from this cameo but it is great to see a youth team player make his debut for the first team. He is very highly rated and hopefully his time will come in subsequent seasons.
