PLAYER RATINGS: How the Tottenham players rated vs Sunderland

Hugo Lloris – He was rarely tested all afternoon but he could have done better with both of the goals Sunderland scored.

Eric Dier – He was not challenged a lot as Tottenham kept the possession for most of the game but Adam Johnson, at times, troubled him with his pace. He has started the season well but he started to show signs of struggles already.

Danny Rose – He was really lively today and he took advantage of the space which was given to him. He joined the attacks almost all the time and was on the positive side of things.
Younes Kaboul – He only had to deal with Wickham today and that was not a hard job to do for the Frenchman. He was in control and calm when he was needed.

Vlad Chiriches – The Romanian was an entertaining figure today as he showed his adventurous side by joining the Spurs attacks. He was cool and calm on the ball when Sunderland was pressing high.

Etienne Capoue – He did not express himself too much as he did his job without any flare. He was decent on the ball, had great composure and provided protection for the back four. Pochettino will be happy with the Frenchman’s performance.

Christian Eriksen – Man of the match for Tottenham as he constantly found spaces in between Sunderland lines and caused the opposition defence all sorts of problems. Deserved his goal in the second half and took it with a simple finish.

Mousa Dembele – He put on another good outing today as he passed the ball really well and controlled the possession in midfield with ease. He should have scored with a thunderous shot from outside the box but he was unlucky to hit the post.

Nacer Chadli – He looks to secure his position in the starting XI with another fine display. Scored an early goal and his pace and trickery caused Sunderland defence problems all afternoon.

Erik Lamela – He was the least effective of the attacking three behind Adebayor, but don’t let that fool you because he was still really active. He had a good passing game but he couldn’t find his attacking game. He should have scored when he dinked the ball over Mannone and hit the bar.

Emmanuel Adebayor – The Togolese striker was really good today as he was unselfish and opportunistic. He could have scored on multiple occasions but still a good outing.

Subs
Benjamin Stambouli – Came on for Nacer Chadli in the 70th minute and controlled the midfield and calmed things down. His passes were decent and on point and he helped his back four until the final whistle.

Harry Kane – Oh Harry, how unlucky are you?! The young striker came on for Adebayor to score on counter attacks but ended up gifting Sunderland a point. A nightmare of a day for the Englishman.

Aaron Lennon– Replaced Eriksen late on but he did not have any effect on the game and he couldn’t help his team find a winner.
