Pochettino: Spurs need to sign a few players

While Tottenham Hotspur are still the only Premier League club yet to sign any players this summer, Mauricio Pochettino insists that the club are trying.

The Tottenham boss spoke to the media after the 2-0 friendly win against Juventus at Wembley and has publicly stated that he wants to bolster his squad ahead of the transfer window closing at the end of the month.

Fans became increasingly worried about the depth of the squad following Kieran Trippier’s ankle injury which forced him off the field against the Serie A side and saw him leave Wembley on crutches. Despite this, Pochettino insists there will be no panic buys.

“He twisted his ankle,” said Pochettino. “We need to assess him on Monday and then we will see. Now the feeling is good. It’s true that he has crutches, but it’s good. We hope that it is not a big issue. Until we assess him and do a scan, we need to wait. You never know. The feeling now is better than at half-time. But still we need to wait and we cannot saying anything today and wait until Monday.

“We are working, trying to add some players to the squad,” Spurs’ manager added. “But that [injury] does not change our idea. Our idea was to try to provide the team with more strength and try to sign a few players before the end of the transfer window.

“But it’s true that now we are in the last few weeks of the transfer window and if we want to strengthen the team and the squad. Be sure that we need to sign a few players. We are looking at different positions in the team and trying to bring the right profile of player. But we are looking to add in different positions of the pitch, different players.”
