Pochettino wary of Magpies threat

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino has warned his Tottenham players to beware the wounded beast this weekend.

Newcastle arrive at White Hart Lane after a bruising start to the season in which fan pressure on manager Alan Pardew has reached new levels.

The Magpies secured their first Barclays Premier League win of the campaign last weekend, but remain in the relegation zone alongside with promoted sides Burnley and QPR.

A repeat of the 1-0 win in last season’s corresponding fixture would be a timely shot in the arm for Pardew’s men and one which Pochettino believes could be repeated if Tottenham get complacent.

“They have very good players,” the former Argentina international told Spurs TV.

“Maybe in the beginning of the season it was difficult for them, but in the last game they got the three points at home.

“That means they are coming here with confidence, but we need to show a good performance and try to win the three points.

“We play at home in front of our supporters and we hope that we have a very good performance and get the three points.”

Tottenham come into the match off the back of a morale-boosting 5-1 demolition of Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League.

Harry Kane’s hat-trick and a wonderful brace from Erik Lamela will boost both players’ push for a start, while but Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker are the other absentees for Newcastle’s visit.
