Redknapp refutes Bentley links away

Harry Redknapp has played down reports suggesting David Bentley will leave the club in January.

Bentley has endured a torrid spell at Tottenham since joining in July 2008 and has only made one league start this season.

His future has undergone further scrutiny after he had a reported bust-up with Redknapp during a training ground friendly.

Redknapp left Bentley out of his squad to face Wolves on Saturday, but has insisted that the winger still has a future at the club.

“I left him out because he didn’t train well.

“Normally he does, because he’s a good player in my opinion and a good pro, but last week he wasn’t at his best and I decided not to put him on the bench.”

Bentley has been reported as ‘desperate’ to quit Spurs in search of regular first team football and regain his England spot.

Manchester City have been linked with a bid for Bentley, whilst Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest, but Redknapp has called on him to prove his worth with Tottenham.

“That’s not to say he won’t be on the bench or in the team next week though.

“There’s no problem between him and me. He’s a very good player and there’s nothing to say he can’t get back into the team.”
