Rio Ferdinand on who Spurs need to buy in January

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has had his say on who he feels would be a worthwhile addition to the Tottenham Hotspur squad.

Ferdinand was speaking as part of his punditry duties on BT Sport following Tottenham’s 4-0 demolition of Everton yesterday evening and was asked where the club needs to bolster their squad.

The ex-England international pinpointed three players as potential good signings for Spurs; Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco, PSG’s Julian Draxler or Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.

He told BT Sport: “Carrasco, will you get him? Draxler, who is surplus at PSG. You need those players that draw two or three out of positions. At the moment if you shut down Kane you go a long way to shutting down this Tottenham team. Mahrez even, someone like that.”

Belgian international, Carrasco has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Atletico side, while Draxler has suffered the same fate at PSG due to their attacking riches that includes the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Mahrez plays the vast majority of matches for Leicester and has been linked with a move to Spurs in the past. Personally, I’d take Draxler out of the three.
