How Spurs could have signed Robert Lewandowski for less than £5m

Many of us watched Robert Lewandowski destroy Real Madrid last night and made us think “we wouldn’t mind seeing him in a Spurs shirt!”

The notion could have been true if Spurs had listened to Steve Archibald. The former Spurs player offered Lewandowski to us while he was still playing for Lech Poznań in his native Poland for less than £5million only for them to say no.

Blackburn Rovers would have signed the 24-year-old in 2008, only for the ash cloud to put an end to the move. As the move stalled, Borussia Dortmund made their move and snapped up what has proven to be one of the best strikers in Europe.

Archibald posted on Twitter: ‘Just a note of interest for Spurs fans, I offered Robert Lewandowski to Spurs when he was still playing in Poland, for less than 5m, pity!

‘To be fair, when they said no I offered him to other clubs who also said no!’
