Can Mason cut it at Spurs?

Rewind to March 31st of last year and Ryan Mason earned his first England cap as a substitute against Italy and set up Andros Townsend’s late equaliser.  Just two months after signing a new five-and-a-half year contract at Spurs.

Just over a year later, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is being linked with a £2million summer transfer to Bournemouth.

The emergence of Deli Alli, along with the form of Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele has gone some way to placing Mason out of favour at the Lane.  He is one of those players who seems to split the opinion of the fans on whether he can actually cut the mustard at our club.

Some say that injuries are the reason for his dip in form, others say he’s too lightweight and doesn’t offer anything to the middle of our midfield.

Personally, I’m in the latter camp.  His off the bench performance at Chelsea when he had a perfect opportunity to score and ended up fluffing his lines said it all.  At 24, he needs to be playing regular first-team football and I just don’t think we can offer it to him.

According to some reports in the Sunday press, Mason is said to be open to a move to Bournemouth and could just be the switch he needs to get back on track after a season to forget.
