Sheringham: Spurs need to strengthen at the back

Tottenham Hotspur legend Teddy Sheringham has identified their defence as the north London club’s weakest link as they attempt to break into an intimidating top four this season.

Speaking in an exclusive interview for 888sport.com the new Stevenage FC boss – who scored 98 goals in seven seasons at White Hart Lane – remains unconvinced on the rear-guard Mauricio Pochettino appears to be settling with ahead of a critical campaign.

Having already brought in Toby Alderwerield, Kevin Wimmer and Kieran Tripper to the Spurs back-line, Sheringham wants to see Daniel Levy spend further.

Tottenham have always been a bit bare on centre-halves. A real good leader at the back would be my first priority. Someone of Ledley King’s ilk would be lovely.”

Sheringham was talking ahead of this weekend’s Premier League opener at Old Trafford where two of his former clubs kick off 2015/16.
