Stambouli satisfied with victory

Benjamin Stambouli was happy to get the job done as his goal earned Tottenham a 1-0 win over Partizan Belgrade.

The French midfielder’s second-half strike means Spurs are through to the last 32 of the Europa League.

“It was good to celebrate this goal with the fans,” he told ITV4.

“We needed to win this game to finish first in the group and now we can think forward.”

Spurs are first but need to avoid defeat in their final game with Besiktas to keep that spot.

“The Europa League is good, even if (it is) only the Europa League,” Stambouli added. “We played a good team who like to fight.

“We need to improve and we tried to score one more goal than them.”

The game was delayed in the first half when the players were taken off after a series of pitch invasions.

“It’s not very easy, it’s always complicated, we had five minutes in the changing room and after we came back it was not easy but we had to be professional and focus,” Stambouli added.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino added: “I am very disappointed. I know the club will make a statement to explain the situation but I am personally disappointed.”

On the match he added: “We can now focus on the Premier League. It is important to get the victory and I am happy for our supporters and the players.”
