Tottenham’s ‘Messi’ goes out on loan

Tottenham Hotspur’s highly-rated youngster Marcus Edwards has joined Championship outfit Norwich City on loan for the remainder of the season.

Edwards, once likened to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi by boss Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t progressed at the rate which many expected, especially when he caught the eye in a League Cup tie against Gillingham in 2016.

The left-footed attacking midfielder needs regular first team football to help his progress to see if he can actually fulfil his potential and hopefully, Norwich will give him the opportunity.

Edwards is ineligible for Norwich’s FA Cup tie at Chelsea on Wednesday because he was not registered in time.

Meanwhile, defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, who has been on loan at fellow Championship club Sheffield United has returned to Tottenham.

CCV’s return to Tottenham has come as somewhat of a surprise, especially since Pochettino said as recently as last month that he had to plan to recall the defender. Hopefully this isn’t linked to any delays in Alderweireld’s fitness.
