Van der Vaart in fitness battle

Rafael van der Vaart is determined to do everything he can to be fit in time for the final game of the season against Birmingham City on Sunday.

A win for Spurs would see the club qualify for next season’s Europa League at the expense of Liverpool – the team who the Dutchman scored against last weekend and injured his calf.

He tweeted: “Stretched my calf a bit last Sunday but will do everything to make the final game of the season.”

Let Kranjcar start with VDV on the bench. With Europa virtually confirmed (as we lead the fair play should we dahl to finish 5th), we should use this last game to give the fringe players a chance.

No, we need our best team out, failure to win, we then rely on fair play to gain entry into the Europa and those games start in June
