Rafael van der Vaart is aiming for Tottenham to finish above Arsenal in the Premier League this season.

The Dutchman believes that the Spurs squad isn’t sub-standard as to what is at Arsenal and is looking forward to his first North London derby later this month.

“Why not?” he said. “Arsenal have a great team also with a lot of young players but our squad is not worse than Arsenal’s.

“I think we will have a chance to win against them and also, over the season, we can try to beat them.”

Van der Vaart has already spoken to Robin van Persie about the North London derby and is ready to do battle.

“I already spoke with Robin and he said it is the greatest derby in the world,” he added.

“I’m looking forward to playing in the derby.”
