Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira has claimed that it would be impossible for him to join Tottenham Hotspur.

The French midfielder was heavily linked with a summer switch from Inter Milan to White Hart Lane.

“I really wanted to come back to the Premier League and there was a big interest from Tottenham,” he told the Daily Star.

“I have a deep respect for the manager there and he’s someone I felt I could work with. I like his personality and everybody that I spoke to, who had worked with him in the past, said great things about him.

“But obviously being an ex-Arsenal player means it is not easy to go to a club like Tottenham.

“So in the end it was an impossibility for someone like me to join Spurs.”
