Walker deal done

The news we were all expecting today has finally been announced, Kyle Walker has joined Manchester City from Tottenham in a deal worth an initial £45million, which could rise to £50million if the add-on clauses are met.

Walker, who has signed a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium, therefore becomes one of the most expensive defenders of all time.

In announcing the signing, Walker’s agency, Base Soccer, claimed on Twitter that their client commanded: “a record fee for a defender and record fee for an English player”.

Whether Walker ever proves to be the costliest defender of all time or not, it is certainly a significant outlay from City and takes their summer spending well beyond the B#100million mark after the captures of playmaker Bernardo Silva and goalkeeper Ederson.

“I am thrilled to be signing for City and can’t wait to get started,” Walker said on www.mancity.com.

“Pep Guardiola is one of the most respected managers in the world and I feel he can help me take my game to a new level.”

You have to laugh at his last comment – Pochettino has done wonders for Walker’s game. He could hardly defend before Poch arrived!

Time to step up the mark, Mr Trippier!
