Wanyama’s long awaited return

Victor Wanyama could make his first appearance for 5 months when Spurs make the trip to South Wales to face a struggling Swansea side.

The Kenyan enforcer last appeared for Spurs in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Wembley stadium on the 20th August, where he looked far from fully fit. Wanyama was almost an ever present for Spurs last season making 36 appearances and chipping in with 4 goals.

This season has been a far different story with Wanyama only making two Premier League appearances so far. Wanyama was instrumental in Spurs excellent defensive record last season, and alongside the absence Toby Alderweireld Spurs have looked far less secure at the back. However, with the return of Victor Wanyama suddenly there appears to be much more strength in the depth at Pochettino’s disposal. His long-awaited return can lessen the work load on Dembele who has been struggling for fitness this season and had looked well off his usual high standards.

Pochettino will now be able to call on upon Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Wanyama and Dembele to fill the central midfield roles during a period where Spurs have three games in 6 days.

Wanyama’s return has come at a crucial time in Spurs season, with the side looking like they have come out the other side of sticky period of form and the teams above dropping points regularly (City excluded) his return could be pivotal in the race for a top 4 finish. There is also the possibility that one day soon, Victor Wanyama, Erik Lamela and Danny Rose could all start for Spurs at the same time!
