Contenders ready? Six games – so good so far…

Third in the table. Two points off the top. Goal difference two below the leaders. Six games in the league and only two goals conceded. Already played Arsenal and Chelsea. What’s not to like?

If we are title contenders as everyone else seems to think we are – then we’re in the mix. Last weekend saw us go up against Chelsea and take a point – that’s not a bad result any way that you look at it. With the Manchester clubs floundering and the title race wide open, it’s a good time to look at how we’ve done so far and what we’ve got coming up.

I’ve written before about how we have a team that need playing time. We have a wealth of options (everywhere but up-front we need another striker) and AVB is changing the team around to suit. The players are learning the tactics as well as the way they play together and for a start like this it’s a pretty good achievement.

Add to this the fact that we have a good run of fixtures until November when it gets a little more heated but I’m impressed – things are shaping up nicely. Do I think we’re title contenders? No. I think we lack the ability to deliver a knockout punch and Soldado hasn’t quite hit the ground running as I would have liked. He’ll come good though I’m confident of that. It’s early days but so good so far.

I think we’ve got the makings of a good season ahead of us. If we get good results this month and play as we know we’re capable of in November we have a good position to defend for December – that’s when we’ll know.

So how do you think we’re doing? Are we contenders? Are we showing we have the potential? Will we achieve it?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below.
