Even Merson is now sitting up and taking notice…

I was away on holiday for a couple of weeks. Usually go in June/July so there is no chance of the hard earned break being spoiled by another abject display or two by Spurs with the resultant Twitter meltdown.
No, this year, we decided to take a Transatlantic Cruise that lasted 15 nights. I think the wife thought that there would be little or no internet coverage in the middle of the Atlantic.

Wrong.

We`had Sky Sports News on our cabin telly 24/7 with little or no break in signal. I was able to see the regular goal flashes against Bournemouth, Villa and Anderlecht, the last two with a five hour time difference. Because it was mainly Americans on the ships, my Spurs jersey did not provoke any comments, unlike the ‘ I dont need Google, my wife knows everything’ T shirt..
Its hard to celebrate three Spurs wins on the bounce in the middle of the Atlantic, so it was back to dry land just in time to see Arsenal played off the pitch in every department except the final score.

I was a bit concerned about West Ham. They have given us problems at the Lane recently, and I rate Slaven Bilic as a coach. The manner in which we put the Hammers firmly in their rightful place was as pleasing as the final score. In fact, I was actually annoyed that we gifted them their consolation. It was far more than they deserved.

During the early part of Sundays game, I thought we were missing Eric Lamela badly. But once Son got the measure of the Hammers defensive tactics, he was an able replacement and unlucky not to get on the score sheet. I especially like the solidity in our midfield which is so un Spurs like. Add that to what is becoming a rock solid defence, its no wonder many of us are pinching ourselves.

I’ve been a Spurs fan for over 50 years. During that time there have been some great times, some bad times (relegation in 1977 and the financial debacle in 1991 spring to mind) and more false dawns than I can even remember. Most of my footballing friends follow United or Chelsea, with Spurs very much the poor relation over the years.

Now, even if this season joins the list of near misses (not like 2012, I cant take another season like that, finishing 4th only for Cheatski to steal our CL spot), I feel that their is a Title in the present Spurs squad, as long as we hold onto Poch and dont sell any of our developing talent to the opposition. Add to that the advent of the superb new Stadium, and it is a very good time to be a Spurs fan just now.

If even Paul Merson is being complimentary about us, then…………………..
