VIDEO: Paul Lambert on Tottenham, Benteke and Townsend

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert warned of the “hype” surrounding Tottenham and England midfielder Andros Townsend on Wednesday ahead of their English Premier League game at home against Spurs on Sunday.

Lambert was quizzed by reporters on everything from the possible return of Christian Benteke, to Tottenham’s start to the season to Andros Townsend’s emergence on the world stage.

Lambert told a press conference. (Q: Can we expect to see Christian Benteke starting against Tottenham?) “Well I think he trained the last couple of days with Belgium and obviously been on the bench (against Wales) indicates he’s felt pretty good, they never had to use him. I find out really again this morning but the last two days he trained I think and seems to be not too bad.”

(Q: What do you make of Tottenham this season, was that West Ham match just a freak result?) “Sometimes you get results where nobody sees it coming, but you still expect Spurs to be there or thereabouts come the end of it (Premier League). One freak result doesn’t really go for anything it’s over the course of the season. West Ham did great to get a result there, but you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

(Q: Andros Townsend has impressed in England’s last two internationals, he’s come from nowhere to being one of the best players in the Premier League hasn’t he?)
“I think this country has got great hype, somebody plays one or two good games then they’re a world beater. Tottenham have got an array of players, it’s not just him. I don’t know the lad at all, the last couple of games for England he’s played well, but you look at Spurs’ team, everyone of their players are top players.”
